Last week, Chris Wilder was hopeful of Sheffield United making a couple of signings before the Norwich City game this Saturday, however, that does not look like coming true.
The Blades have reportedly been pursuing a number of targets based in England. Those are: Ben Brereton Diaz, Hamza Choudhury and Tom Cannon.
Brereton Diaz, out of favour at Southampton, is thought to only want to rejoin United if he is to leave the South during this window.
Sheffield United are also in the market for another striker as they jostle with promotion rivals Sunderland for Tom Cannon, who was recalled by Leicester City from his loan spell at Stoke City earlier this week. The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international netted 11 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for the Potters after joining on the final day of the summer transfer window.
United and Sunderland have reportedly both tabled bids worth up to £13 million. Sheffield United’s proposal includes £10 million guaranteed, with an additional £3 million in performance-based extras.
Meanwhile, the Blades have been linked with another Leicester man over the last couple of weeks. Choudhury was close to joining the club on loan this week, per reports. Instead, according to The Star, United are said to be growing frustrated with the lack of progress in securing his move. He was an unused substitute for the Foxes during their 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Now, the team hailing from S2 are pursuing another former loan player as Tommy Doyle continues to fall down the pecking order at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
During his loan spell with United back in the 2022/23 campaign, Doyle ranked in the top 10% among all Championship midfielders in these categories: assists per 90, expected assisted goals per 90 and goal-creating actions per 90, via FBref. This highlights his excellent creativity output for this level.
In addition, Southampton midfielder Shea Charles has emerged as a transfer target for Sheffield United, per The Star. The 21-year-old was recalled from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday where he racked up a goal and four assists in 23 Championship appearances.

On a more positive note, at least Wilder looks to have some players back from injury this week. Tyrese Campbell and Femi Seriki have been seen in training via the club’s social media.
Whilst some fans are urging to get an extortionate deal done for Cannon, it’s easy to forget the incredible form Campbell was in before his spell on the sidelines. While there is room for improvement on the creative front, the free transfer of Tyrese Campbell in the summer has been a huge reason for their success in front of goal. The former Stoke City forward has scored six goals from just 12 shots on target, and he currently has the ninth-best “goals vs xG” number in the division (3.11), meaning he has been extremely clinical in front of goal.
Additionally, only two other forwards in the Championship (that have played a minimum of 500 minutes) have a better conversion rate than Campbell’s 31.6%, per Opta.
It is also thought that Vinicius Souza will return to action this weekend.
