Sunday afternoon kicks-off an important stage of the season for Celtic FC Women as the SWPL heads into the business stage of the campaign.

While Brendan Rodgers and his squad gear up for derby day at Paradise, along the M8 Elena Sadiku’s side are also in Sunday action as they travel to face Hearts.

With each match proving important as we enter the latter stages of the campaign, Sunday’s visit to the Oriam for the Ghirls also gets the final 10 games of the season underway as we enter the split.

With the league title still very much up for grabs, and all to play for, it is gearing up to be another thrilling end to the campaign.

One player who will be experiencing the split for the first time as a Celtic player is Shannon McGregor.

Having joined the club in the summer, the midfielder has quickly nailed down a regular role within the side, and has been a key player in the centre of the pitch for the Celts.

Speaking at Hampden, McGregor looked ahead to what is set to be an exciting period in the season as she insisted the entire squad will be relishing the post-split matches getting underway.

She said: “We are all really excited for the post-split games to get underway this weekend. Obviously, we start off with Hearts, which will be a tough game.

“Going into the last 10 games, this is a really important part of the season. I think it’s a period of the season we can do well in though.

“We all feel as though it’s something that we can relish going into these big games. We like that competition.

'Our aim from here is to win the league, and make sure we keep that trophy.'

“Of course, each game is important throughout the whole season. But when you head into the split, it gets that bit more important as each match comes against the top six.

“I think for us as a collective, we just want to focus on each game as it comes. We know that there are just 10 games left, so our main focus is on one game at a time.

“We’ve got Hearts up first this Sunday, and that is what we are looking towards. We don’t focus on the end of the league or the whole split and what is to come.

“So, we will just keep an eye on each game as they come as they will all be tough.”

With the Hoops kicking off their post-split fixtures with a trip to Edinburgh, no matter where their first game was taking place, there was always no doubt that the Celtic support will be there to play their part.

Having done so all season, McGregor praised the faithful fanbase, who have travelled all around the country, and even across Europe to support the Ghirls.

That is a support which the midfielder believes will be important heading into those final 10 games of the season, where the Celts can play their part.

She said: “Our fans are just amazing. The Celtic support is always great! They come week-in-week-out, without fail.

“Whether we are travelling to Aberdeen, Dundee or anywhere across the country, which is so amazing to have.

“I think for them to be there supporting us during the split is going to be so important because we always hear them, no matter where we go.

“So, they will have an important part to play, and I’m sure we will see them there against Hearts.”
