Serie A | Bologna 3-0 Venezia: Ndoye brace revives Rossoblu

Dan Ndoye broke his drought with a career first Serie A brace around Riccardo Orsolini’s penalty as Bologna intensified the Venezia crisis.

The Rossoblu had been on good form with three consecutive Serie A victories, but crumbled 3-0 to Lazio last week when down to 10 men, for which Tommaso Pobega was suspended here. They also lost to Lille midweek in the Champions League, despite scoring their first goal in the tournament. The Lagunari were coming off three straight defeats and Francesco Zampano had surgery on a fracture in his hand.

Remo Freuler tested Filip Stankovic from the edge of the area, then Dan Ndoye flashed a ball across the face of goal with nobody able to get on the end of it, but Jens Odgaard should’ve done better when volleying over relatively undisturbed from 12 yards on a Juan Miranda cross.

Ndoye burst down the right and was brought down clumsily by Ridgeciano Haps, so the Switzerland international sent Stankovic the wrong way from the penalty spot to score his first goal of the season and only his second career Serie A goal.

Hans Nicolussi Caviglia had the chance to equalise within four minutes, but ballooned high and wide from the edge of the area after Gaetano Oristanio rode two tackles.

Miranda had a pop from distance and Odgaard curled wide from the edge of the box, but the second half started on a negative note when Lorenzo De Silvestri hobbled off after Oristanio accidentally trod on his Achilles tendon as they crossed paths.

Bologna again wasted a huge opportunity, as Jesper Karlsson was sent clear through the middle by Odgaard only to scuff a weak finish straight into the arms of Stankovic.

Odgaard stung the goalkeeper’s gloves twice when he should’ve done far better, the second time on a ball over the top from Riccardo Orsolini. However, after this second attempt, Thijs Dallinga tried to get on the end of the loose ball as Idzes booted it away, getting there first. The referee awarded another penalty following the VAR review, converted by Orsolini.

Moments later, Orsolini flashed a ball low across from the right and Ndoye flicked it into the net from six yards for his first ever Serie A brace.

To make matters worse for Venezia, they lost substitute John Yeboah to injury and Lukasz Skorupski made a splendid flying save on the Joel Pohjanpalo volley.
