Scott Bain reveals reasons for Celtic exit | OneFootball

Scott Bain has revealed his reason for leaving Celtic this summer. The Scottish goalkeeper had one year remaining on his deal but an agreement was reached to allow the 33-year-old to join Falkirk as a free agent.

Speaking to STV, Bain admitted his love for Celtic but the drive to play regularly so that his young family can watch him pushed him to make the switch to John McGlynn’s side.

“I think I was getting to the age now, where if I stayed on at Celtic for another year, as much as I loved being there and loved the club, I would have been another year older and it would have been harder to get back to playing regular football.

“A big thing for me was for my fiancé and little boy potentially getting the chance to come and watch me play, which will be a different experience for them than it’s been for the last couple of years.

“So that was a big factor, as was getting the chance to come to Falkirk and work under the manager and the staff here.

“Seeing how well the club is run, was another big factor in me coming here.”

Celtic signed Bain as cover during Brendan’s second season during his first stint in charge as back up to Dorus De Vries and Craig Gordon. Bain was on loan with Neil Lennon’s Hibs from Dundee after a fallout with Neil McCann; however, a deadline day move transpired and the ex-Dundee No.1 signed on loan for Celtic while in his Hibs kit.

Bain made his debut at Ibrox in a famous 3-2 win over Rangers, which resulted in the end of the full Broomloan Stand for Celtic fans. Thereafter, he became No.1 in 2019 as Celtic won another Treble. Fraser Forster arrived and ousted both Bain and Gordon as No.1 after Neil Lennon was appointed manager. The goalkeeper was a regular in Lennon’s team during COVID after Vasilis Barkas’ move failed to pan out. However, the arrival of Joe Hart and then Kasper Schmeichel confirmed that there would be no return to the No.1 role for Bain.

The player would make 78 appearances for Celtic, collecting seven league titles, five Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

Bain is set to be replaced by Ross Doohan, who is set to be announced after the expiry of his Aberdeen deal. Doohan will supplement No.1 Schmeichel and his deputy, Vil Sinisalo.
