Stade Brestois head coach Éric Roy has on Monday provided an insight into why he opted against watching back La Liga leaders Barcelona’s performances against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Brest, of course, are primed to lock horns with Barcelona tomorrow night, in a Champions League showdown in Catalunya’s capital.
Whilst the former have enjoyed an impressive campaign on the continent to date, it is the Blaugrana who will head into the clash, for obvious reasons, boasting favourite status.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the emormity of the task awaiting his side in Spain on Tuesday was in turn put to the aforementioned Éric Roy.
And Brest’s headmaster was not shy in confirming his admiration for Hansi Flick’s side:
“Barça are once again an incredible team. It won’t be like Guardiola’s with Messi but they’re on the way.”
From here, Roy went on to admit that he did not have the heart to watch replays of Barcelona’s resounding victories over either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in preparations for Tuesday, to avoid being left ‘scared’ by the brilliance of the Catalans:
“We can’t watch Barça’s games against Bayern or Real Madrid because they are scary, but by that rule of three we would have stayed at home.”
