Ewandro Costa, a product of São Paulo’s academy, delivered a standout performance for Omonia in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round, according to Arquibancada Tricolor. The Cypriot club secured a convincing 4-0 win over Araz Naxçıvan of Azerbaijan, with Ewandro playing a central role by scoring once and providing two assists.
Now 29, Ewandro made his professional debut for São Paulo a decade ago before embarking on a career that has taken in various leagues and clubs. Against Araz Naxçıvan, his creativity and finishing were on display as he drove Omonia towards a commanding position ahead of the return fixture.
Also featuring in the starting lineup was Fabiano, another São Paulo academy graduate, who has established himself as Omonia’s first-choice goalkeeper. His presence added to the Brazilian flavor in the Cypriot side as they aim to progress further in continental competition.
The second leg between Omonia and Araz Naxçıvan is scheduled for next Thursday, with the Cypriot side holding a strong advantage. This run in Europe highlights the pathways taken by São Paulo alumni, who continue to make their mark far from Morumbi.
