San Diego Wave have appointed former Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall as their head coach ahead of the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League season.
The Swedish manager joins the NWSL side after resigning from his tenure in North London back in October. Eidevall spent just over three years managing the Women’s Super League side. While in North London, he won two League Cups with Arsenal and managed the side to a Champions League semi-final.
Eidevall will take over the position at San Diego Wave from interim manager Landon Donovan. The former USMNT forward took charge on a provisional basis after former England international Casey Stoney was relieved of her duties in June.
“San Diego is a city with passionate fans and a vibrant football culture. I’m eager to contribute to building a winning legacy here,” said Eidevall following his appointment. “Together with the players, staff and supporters, I look forward to achieving great things and making unforgettable memories for this club.”
Wave FC has officially announced @Eidevall as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2025 season 🌊–
San Diego Wave owner Lauren Leichtman said: “Jonas’ arrival marks the beginning of a new era for San Diego Wave FC.”
The Wave will hope Eidevall replicates the initial success Stoney achieved. The club won the 2023 NWSL Shield and 2024 Challenge Cup under Stoney but finished the 2024 NWSL season in tenth place, thus failing to qualify for the playoffs.
Last season was unique for the club because it saw USWNT legend Alex Morgan retire. Now, San Diego must adapt to many key personnel changes ahead of the new 2025 NWSL campaign, which begins in March.
The club will start preparing for the 2025 campaign in the coming weeks, with their initial preseason camps beginning shortly.
