Mo Salah says he wants to follow up his Football Writers’ Association (FWA) player of the year award by winning the Ballon d’Or.
Salah received over 90% of the vote to take home the award having scored 28 Premier League goals this season to fire Liverpool to the title.
And now he wants to follow it up by winning the Ballon d’or, the award for the best footballer in Europe.
“I think it would mean a lot to me (to win the Ballon d’Or) and to the people (of Egypt),” he said.
“I’ve had a great season and if it comes, it comes, if not, it’s not in my hands so I’m doing my best through the season, winning the Premier League with such an incredible season.
“With that number of goals and assists, hopefully it will help and then in the end we’ll see.”
Salah is one goal contribution (goals and assists) away from equalling the most ever in a Premier League season, held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole with 47.
The Reds host Crystal Palace on the final day of the season with Salah hoping to surpass that record.
“Coming in a season that helps your team to win the Premier League is so special,” Salah said on his outstanding stats this season.
“It’s way more special because it comes with the Premier League so it’s always so special when the team wins something and you also have an incredible impact on the team, nothing can match that.”
The Egypt international put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Liverpool recently and is now eyeing more success.
“I enjoy every moment here,” he said.
“I’ve had incredible years with Jurgen and now. I can’t put it into just one sentence but my journey here is incredible.
“You come in with that ambition with a new manager and want to win it, want to make it happen, but I think to be honest I didn’t even dream of this great, great season scoring every game, assisting every game and breaking all the records, it’s incredible.
“I know how much winning the title meant to the City and it’s a new era. I want to prove that I’m still doing it now with a different coach, different players. I wanted to show I am still able to do it.
“I showed everybody I could do it without the players and manager of the past, all of us not just myself.”
