Southampton are scouting Sheffield Wednesday's wide attacker Djeidi Gassama to strengthen their final-third issues.

We're at that time of the year when Championship fans will be thinking about which trio will get promoted to the Premier League. Now, Southampton fans can also be included in the Championship circles but they are built differently and promotion races won't entice them nowadays.

Instead, their attention always revolves around bottom-table clubs Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday. The former doesn't invoke cheerful feelings among the Saints but nonetheless, the latter balances out that negativity.

Honestly, Sheffield Wednesday has the chance to do Southampton the world of good as well. They employ both Danny Rohl and temporarily Shea Charles and any of them, if not both, can be of massive use to the Saints.

But their frugal negotiation tactics are well known and there is a significant likelihood that they won't soften their stance on any of these prized assets.

Gassama joining Southampton can be a feasible transfer possibility

Still, they have promising winger Djeidi Gassama also on their books who has taken the second-division football by surprise. The 21-year-old is turning heads with his attacking sequences and his goal tally pin-points that he could be the next big wonderkid in English football.

Evidently, Football League World has conveyed that those lofty praises have also reached Southampton's ears who know their attack can reach the next level with his presence. Further, Sheffield must agree they can't go on an unchanged retaining spree and in some way or the other, they will have to part ways with some members of their roster.

Hence, coming to the transfer table with Southampton for some of those names isn't a bad idea as long as the Saints are willing to meet their transfer demands.
