Foot Mercato understands that AS Saint-Étienne have made Irvin Cardona’s (27) move to the club permanent.
The Frenchman returned to Saint-Étienne, where he spent the second half of the 2023/24 season, on loan in January. He had joined Espanyol on loan at the start of last season, however, that loan was cut short by parent club Augsburg in the winter, allowing Cardona to re-join Les Verts.
Despite netting five goals in 15 Ligue 1 appearances, he could not prevent Saint-Étienne from making a swift return to Ligue 2. However, he will still make his move to the club permanent. As per Foot Mercato, ASSE have triggered the buy option included in the deal. He will therefore join in a deal worth €2.5m and sign a contract that will run until the summer of 2028. The centre-forward will be looking to guide Les Verts back into the first division next season.
