Newcastle United humbled Leicester City this weekend. In the match, new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was visibly frustrated with one Fox.
Ruud van Nistelrooy suffered his first taste of defeat at the weekend, as Leicester City were humbled by Newcastle United away from home.
The Dutchman had a flying start to life as Foxes coach. However, given the state of the squad he inherited, his high-flying momentum was not bound to last forever.
Leicester City were not only handed defeat by the Magpies, they were handed a lesson or two. The Foxes were never really in the match and in truth, the result could have been much worse.
In the match, fans noticed a moment whereby Ruud van Nistelrooy was visibly frustrated with one Leicester player in particular.
As pointed out by Jordan Blackwell for Leicestershire Live, Ruud van Nistelrooy showed his frustration with Leicester player Kasey McAteer on the touchline.
Mads Hermansen saw an opportunity to kick the ball long, which was a rarity given the pressure applied by Newcastle players. However, Kasey McAteer was not as aware of the long-ball as he perhaps could have been and ultimately, Lewis Hall beat McAteer and wasted the Foxes opportunity.
After this opportunity was wasted by McAteer, Ruud van Nistelrooy visualised his frustration on the touchline. He stood with his arms outstretched for a few seconds, showing his confusion with McAteer not showing for the ball better.
Opportunities were not a common occurrence for Leicester at the weekend. According to stats from FotMob, Leicester took four shots, had zero big chances and only produced 0.19 xG.
Therefore, it truly is no surprise that Leicester didn't manage to score a goal. Losing to Newcastle at St James Park is nothing to be embarrassed about. However, the manner in which Leicester lost, without putting up any form of fight, is certainly enough to be embarrassed about.
Next up, Leicester City face Wolves in the Premier League, then it's Liverpool on Boxing Day and Man City before the new year. Therefore, the Foxes haven't set themselves up favourably for this difficult run of fixtures.
Nevertheless, the blame cannot be pointed at Kasey McAteer. His lack of confidence shown here was a reflection of the whole team - Hardly any of the Leicester attackers dropped deep to help with build-up play, after all.
