Football presenter Richard Keys has questions Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and whether he is good enough to take the club forward.

The Red Devils are currently 14th in the Premier League but they have been success in Europe this season.

Amorim has guided the Premier League giants to the semifinal of the Europa League where they will meet Athletic Bilbao.

Keys believes there are better options out there to manage Man United and Amorim’s performance this season should be questioned considering the resources available at his disposal.

The Portuguese manager was appointed this season when United sacked Erik ten Hag but the team’s performance in the Premier League has no improved. In fact, it has regressed under Amorim and they are set to finish in their worst ever position in the league this season.

“The question is, would you trust him now, from what we’ve seen, to rebuild Manchester United with another £250m?”

The experienced football presenter then named former England boss Gareth Southgate as the right man to take charge of Man United.

“On the grounds that he’s taken England to two European Championship finals. He understands a modern player and what’s required in order to make the modern player feel good about himself, his football team and the club he plays for. He’s a master of manipulation and motivation.”

Ruben Amorim deserves more time at Man United

There is no doubt Southgate’s performances were brilliant for England and he took them to the latter stages of the tournament but writing off Amorim at this stage is not logical.

The Portuguese manager deserves to get more time at United and if he is given the signings that suit his system and playing style, he can do a good job for the club.

He has shown in the big matches this season that he is tactically well aware of his team and their strengths and weaknesses.

United beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this season, got a draw at Anfield and knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

At some stage next season, we can have a better idea about Amorim and whether he is the right man to take the Red Devils forward.
