Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledged that winning the Europa League and thereby qualifying for the Champions League would bring plenty of benefits, but warned that "the problems are still there" regardless of their continental success.
Amorim took over a United side slumped in 12th place in the Premier League table back in November. Over the subsequent six months, the Red Devils have dropped to 14th, crashed out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup while posting a glut of unwanted records.
However, the campaign can still end in European glory. Manchester United have been paired with Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-finals ahead of a potential final against one of Bodo/Glimt or Tottenham Hotspur.
Amorim is still not impressed. "[Winning a trophy] is not the most important thing," the Portuguese boss sighed. "Of course people are going to look in a different way for this season, especially for the coach. Again, it's something more in the core of our club.

"We need to change a lot of things and we need to be consistent. Europa League is not going to change anything in our problems - it's going to give us Champions League next year, more money to spend - but the problems are still there."
United stand to gain around £100m by qualifying for Europe's premier club competition. Amorim acknowledged that such a windfall would dramatically change the calibre of players targeted in the upcoming transfer window, but insisted that qualification would not define his tenure.
"It could change our summer and change the next years," he noted. "We have to deal with a lot of things in our club and we will be fine with Champions League or without Champions League."
Amorim did shed some light on what he wants from United: "We have to change the minds of our fans with consistency, good decisions, good recruitment, good academy. This is what we need to change to take our club back to the top.
"This is more of a shortcut to go to the European games. Nothing more. The problems, we need to solve in a different way with more time and we're really clear on that."
