Manchester United have been quietly negotiating one player’s exit for several weeks now.

As things stand, the Red Devils have endured a quiet window on both the incomings and outgoings front; they are yet to sanction any major sales and have only bolstered Ruben Amorim’s ranks with the addition of Matheus Cunha.

Fans will be crossing their fingers that certain links develop over the coming days, including Bryan Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford, after he reiterated to his suitors that he would only leave Brentford for United this summer.

The forward is on the back of a lacklustre campaign leading the line in M16, during which he scored six fewer Premier League goals (four) than he managed in his maiden term (10).

Given the side’s frequent links to centre-forwards in recent months, it’s clear Amorim and the board have privately conceded that Hojlund cannot be the starting No.9 week in and week out when 2025/2026 gets underway.

That’s not to say United will actively be seeking to cut ties with the 22-year-old, as there is still room for him to develop alongside a more prolific goalscoring counterpart. However, they would likely consider any offers that arrive and subsequently assess whether it’s worth cashing in prematurely.

What’s the latest on Hojlund to Inter?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter established their interest in the Danish international last month by approaching United to gauge the feasibility of a transfer.

Their attempts have since been rebuffed, though, due to their proposal of an initial loan with an option to buy the player this time next year.

“We know there was a strong interest from Inter, who made contact with the player side, with Manchester United, since May,” revealed Romano on YouTube. “But what happens? Inter are signing [Ange-Yoan] Bonny, a young, talented striker from Parma,”

“And for Hojlund, at the moment, they still don’t have any sort of agreement with Manchester United. Inter wanted to start with a loan deal with a buy option [that becomes an] obligation with quite easy conditions.

“Manchester United insist [on a] permanent transfer or the player is staying. So there is still a gap between the parties. At the moment, nothing has been agreed.”
