Chelsea have kicked off their Club World Cup campaign, but behind the scenes there is still serious transfer work going on.

While Enzo Maresca trains his players in the USA, the transfer team are getting to work on helping build his squad.

Gittens still wants ChelseaChelsea still want Gittens

The attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens before the tournament failed, but it’s clear that Chelsea still want him. Maresca said in his press conference this week that a winger remained a priority, and there doesn’t seem anyone out there we’re more interested in than Gittens.

Fabrizio Romano has just dropped an update which confirms that. The Italian insider says that the youngster is “not opening doors to other clubs” as he’s happy with the 7 year deal he agreed with Chelsea.

“Club to club remain ongoing,” Romano concludes.

Gittens may have to be patient for dream move

Fabrizio Romano’s latest Tweet about Jamie Gittens.

With the mini transfer deadline closing in, Dortmund tried to use that pressure to get Chelsea to pay big. But the Blues resisted, and now we could be in for a long battle to push the price down.

The German club’s initial demands for €100m fell quickly to €80m, and we can easily see that falling to €60m with €10m in bonuses added in. Dortmund are tough negotiators, but they also know when to hold and when to fold.

Gittens clearly wants a move to Chelsea, but he may have to be really patient now. It could be a sweaty summer for him, and at some point he may have to put the pressure on his club himself.

There will be plenty of debates in that time about whether the former Man City academy kid is the right choice for Chelsea. But to us, it looks like it’s happening – eventually.
