England have ‘a lot of hard work ahead’ after win over Serbia, says Gareth Southgate
Ukraine have begun their Euro 2024 campaign, facing potentially one of the weakest sides at the tournament in Romania. That’s how it looks from an odds perspective, and indeed with the level that the squad has been playing at in club football, but the qualification campaign suggests something very different.
Romania topped their group unbeaten, ahead of Switzerland and Israel, qualifying for the Euros with just five goals conceded in their 10 fixtures. Even so, Ukraine, will feel they have the calibre of individuals and the tournament experience to see off their rivals and make a good start to Group E.
Ukraine themselves finished third in qualifying behind England and Italy, but came through the play-offs by beating Bosnia and Herzegovina away in the semis, before defeating Iceland at home in the final.
