Albert Gudmundsson remains one of the names being closely followed by Roma to strengthen the attacking midfield, a department in which the new coach Gian Piero Gasperini has asked for quality and dynamic additions.

The Icelandic playmaker, coming off an up-and-down season with 8 goals in 33 appearances between Serie A and cups, is ready to return to Genoa after Fiorentina failed to redeem him, as they will not exercise the €17 million option by the deadline.

At Trigoria, Gudmundsson’s name is marked at the top of the list for the role of attacking midfielder, writes La Repubblica.

However, Roma’s current financial conditions require caution: the valuation made by Genoa, raised to €20 million, is considered out of reach until the necessary transfers are completed to comply with FFP. The deadline is known: June 30.

The interest in Gudmundsson is part of a clear technical project: to give Gasperini versatile and offensively complete players, capable of moving between the lines and ensuring unpredictability in the final 30 meters.

The Icelander’s profile responds to these characteristics: mobile attacking midfielder, skilled at dribbling and shooting from distance, he can also act as a second striker or offensive winger.

Genoa, strong in the player’s performances and the competition on the market, has no intention of making any discounts. The Ligurian club will regain control of the player’s contract and could put him on the market permanently. For the moment, Roma are limiting themselves to monitoring the situation, with the awareness that a potential move will only be possible starting in July.
