Roma are satisfied with what Alexis Saelemaekers has given them so far and are preparing the strategy to retain him from Milan. He joined them in a simple loan, with Tammy Abraham going the other way around.
According to Il Tempo (via Virgilio), the Giallorossi will propose the same swap but on permanent deals. It didn’t come together in the summer as the two teams came up with the idea late and there wasn’t enough time to arrange it as the two players didn’t have matching price tags and wages.
Roma could also dangle Bryan Cristante to sign Saelemaekers outright. He has lost his spot due to an ankle injury and will miss a few more matches. Milan aren’t super deep in the midfield. Moreover, he’d help the Rossoneri with the lists because he’s a home-grown product.
The Belgian winger has tallied 2 goals and 2 assists and handled a host of roles. He would have contributed more if it wasn’t for an ankle issue of his own. The capital club is currently searching for a deputy on the right wing. They are tracking Ajax’s Devyne Rensch, Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu, and Freiburg’s Killiann Sildillia.
Any team can use a player who has his combination of energy, technique, and positional versatility, including the Rossoneri. The fact that they let him go so easily was baffling to begin with. Perhaps things will change next summer under a different manager. Otherwise, it’ll be a pretty hard negotiation due to his good performances and because he has a few years on his contract.
