Roma could see Toulouse and Olympiacos friendly matches cancelled

Roma have two friendly matches planned this summer against Toulouse and Olympiacos that are at risk of being cancelled due to fears over potential crowd trouble.

The Giallorossi are set to face Ligue 1 side Toulouse on July 27 and the problem here is nothing to do with the French supporters.

The problem feared by local authorities is that on the same day, Napoli are also in nearby Castel di Sangro for their pre-season training retreat and there is famously bad blood between the Partenopei and Roma ultras.

There is the very real risk of the game being called off or moved from Ancona to ensure that the two sets of supporters do not come into contact with each other.

To make matters worse, Ancona fans are twinned with Napoli, so they could work together to set up an ambush.

A press conference to present the match was planned for this morning in Ancona and cancelled, which suggests the whole event could be abandoned.

High-risk games for Roma fans

That is not the only issue, as Roma are also scheduled to play against Greek side Olympiacos in Rieti on August 3.

This could be at risk if the hard-line ultras of Olympiacos decide to make the trip to Italy for the match.

Roma fans are twinned with their rivals Panathinaikos and there were ugly clashes in the past with Olympiacos supporters.
