Roma are confident they’ll convince Leandro Paredes to stay in short order, while more talks are needed to come to terms with Mile Svilar. He has become the top priority in this respect among their young linchpins after Niccolò Pisilli renewed his contract until 2029.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), the Giallorossi have been haggling for a while on a pair of aspects. The agreement on the new wages is within reach. The goalkeeper would earn about €3M on average over the next few years. He’ll nearly triple his current salary. He came in as a deputy when he joined from Benfica in a Bosman move. He eventually replaced Rui Patricio as the go-to-guy.

The Svilar camp would like to insert a release clause, and Roma could give in to the request, provided it’s high and valid only for foreign teams. The team would set it at €40M. The parties have to keep negotiating on this aspect. The young shot-stopper has a few suitors across Europe.

As far as their veterans are concerned, the Giallorossi plot to keep Stephan El Shaarawy. They’ll do so through the automatic activation of an appearance-based clause already present in his deal. It’ll happen soon since he has been healthy this campaign. The expiration date will be pushed to 2026. He’ll remain a precious deputy in multiple roles next season.

Our Take on Svilar and Roma

There’s usually a reason why extensions take longer than expected. It’s a tricky situation, as good goalies, especially young-ish ones, are always in demand. A release clause that’s not far-fetched would generate a looming threat.
