Roma managed to avoid losing a regular to comply with their Financial Fair Play settlement, but did make a relevant sale by the June 30th deadline, sending Tammy Abraham to Besiktas. His departure, coupled with Leandro Paredes’ return to Boca Juniors, will suffice to skirt hurtful sanctions, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Fantacalcio).
The Englishman, who played at Milan last season, is leaving on a loan with a €2M initial fee and a €13M obligation to buy plus bonuses. The deal could be worth up to €20M. He’ll de facto replace Ciro Immobile, who’s on the verge of returning to Serie A. He’s in advanced talks with Bologna.
Roma will face a €2/4M fine because of the debts they accumulated, but no restrictions as far as the UEFA list is concerned. Moreover, they shed two big salaries, about €8M combined, which doesn’t hurt. Paredes will soon reunite with Boca Juniors for €3.5M.
The Giallorossi contemplated cashing in on some youngsters, but they didn’t in the end. In particular, Sassuolo came forward for Luigi Cherubini, while Torino targeted Federico Terlizzi and Alessandro Romano. The capital club can now start making additions: their early targets are Jhon Lucumi, Matt O’Riley, Armand Laurienté, Kenneth Taylor, Nicolas Tagliafico, Georges Mikautadze, Wesley, and Maxim De Cuyper.
He wasn’t half-bad at Milan, and he probably would have fit Gian Piero Gasperini’s football nicely, but they had to do something, and he was on the lowest end of the possible sacrifices. They have a lot of holes and less firepower than in the recent past, so they’ll have to be surgical. Bolstering the wings should be the first order of business.
