Claudio Ranieri is the latest name to be linked as Luciano Spalletti’s replacement in case Italy fail to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

After the defeat in Norway, Spalletti’s position on the national team bench is more at risk than ever.

The match against Moldova will be on Monday, while the meeting between the coach and Gravina is scheduled for Tuesday.

In the event of the former Napoli coach’s farewell, the favourite to take his place is Pioli.

There has also been much talk of Ranieri, who after his experience at Roma has joined the club as a senior advisor.

Despite rumours that he will be the next national team coach, Roma have no doubts that Ranieri will remain at Trigoria.

As reported by Corriere della Sera, the club’s top management are confident that the former coach will remain at the club in his new role.

Ranieri has repeatedly reiterated that he has retired from coaching, repeatedly refusing the Friedkins’ proposal to stay on the bench for another year.
