Roma are closing in on the signing of Richard Rios from Palmeiras with talks ongoing.

Rios is set for a move to Europe this summer after impressing at the FIFA Club World Cup for the Brazilian side.

A strong tournament followed a breakout for Rios at last summer’s Copa America, where the Colombian’s displays caught the eye of European sides.

Manchester United have been regularly linked with signing the 25-year-old over the last 12 months.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, and head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, are understood to have had scouts monitoring Rios during this summer’s Club World Cup tournament. However, Roma are now pushing to conclude a deal.

Rios is keen on the transfer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the player is prepared to give up his 10% cut of any transfer to facilitate the move.

Palmeiras are demanding a guaranteed fee of €30m (£25.9m) and no agreement has been reached between the two clubs. However, negotiations are taking place.

Gian Piero Gasperini has identified Rios as a top target as the new head coach looks to rebuild Roma this summer. After arriving from Atalanta, Gasperini is targeting a box-to-box midfielder and the Colombian’s ball-carrying and tenacity are viewed as an ideal fit.

Roma are working on the South American market this summer and also have interest in Flamengo right-back Wesley.
