Roma and Inter pour cold water over Frattesi transfer idea

After Inter assured Davide Frattesi did not ask for a transfer, Claudio Ranieri confessed Roma ‘logically cannot spend all that money’ to sign the midfielder.

Already almost midway through the January transfer window, it is looking increasingly unlikely that a deal can be done to bring Frattesi back to the Stadio Olimpico.

A product of the Roma youth academy and a lifelong supporter of the side, he has been heavily linked with a potential move after struggling for regular playing time at Inter.

However, any sale would be at a cost of over €40m and therefore seems rather improbable.

Marotta and Ranieri calm Frattesi speculation

There were two interviews today that made it seem even more unlikely, as Inter President Beppe Marotta told DAZN that the Italy international had not asked to leave.

“Frattesi is a good lad and a great professional, he certainly did not demand a transfer. We generally don’t want to sell anyone, but when a player manifests his desire to make a change, naturally we listen and look around. So far, Frattesi has not told us he wants to leave.”

Later on, Roma coach Ranieri spoke to Sky Sport Italia in the build-up to the Serie A match against Bologna and put a dampener on those ambitions too.

“There is nothing defined, but logically you cannot spend all that money, to be perfectly honest.”

A move would likely only happen if Roma sold Lorenzo Pellegrini first, but that too is up in the air, as Napoli are looking at several different midfield targets.
