Inter Miami won the match against Club Necaxa on penalties. A tough game that left many setbacks for the Herons' upcoming games.
Firslty, on Wednesday, against Pumas, Javier Mascherano won't be able to choose Falcon as his right centre-back due to his red card. Secondly, in the first ten minutes, Lionel Messi was taken off due to an injury.
Meaning, the Herons were not only down to ten men, but also without their captain on the pitch.
However, when everything seems to be going downhill for Inter Miami, a hidden gem emerges to save the team in the decisive stage.
It is not the first time the Argentine goalkeeper has saved the team when they were struggling. Without Drake Callender and Oscar Ustari, Rios Novo assumed the responsibility of guarding the Heron's goal.
Mascherano gave him the trust, and Novo didn't back down. The former Lanus responded with authority and established a strong presence to lead Inter Miami.
It's not easy, but Novo makes it look that way. The Herons finished playing 90 minutes against a strong Necaxa, with one player less; all the faith relied on him.
The stage of the penalty shootout could determine many things. But without hesitation, Rios Novo stopped one penalty. Among sports programs, Luis Suarez was the hero because he scored the last penalty.
However, the real reason Inter Miami won the game was that the Argentine stopped that penalty.
And I'm not "throwing compliments" but recognizing that Inter Miami found a real gem with this player, who rose when the team needed him the most.
