Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez has called on fans to resist the 'dangerous' temptation to run onto the pitch in search of a selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2024.

As many as six supporters were guilty of pitch invasions during and immediately after Portugal's win over Turkey. Ronaldo humoured the first when a young boy ran towards him, phone in hand, 70 minutes into the 3-0 win. But he was less tolerant of the five others – a teenager and four adults.

As Portugal prepare to face Georgia in their final group game, Martinez has warned anyone hoping to get themselves a picture with the 39-year-old superstar against trying it.

"[Ronaldo] is a very experienced player who has been with the national team for over 20 years. He knows the kind of support fans provide, not just Portugal fans, but football fans in general," the Portugal boss explained.

"But I hope there won't be any more pitch invasions. It is dangerous, and it is not good for football. It's not the part of the game that we want to see."

Ahead of facing the lowest ranked team in the tournament, Portugal's two victories so far have already secured their place in the knockout stage as Group F winners. But Ronaldo's personal ambition is likely to see him continue to start as he seeks his first goal.

The Al Nassr veteran found the net ten times during qualifying, also scoring twice in the final warm-up friendly against the Republic of Ireland to take his international tally to a world record-extending 130. Yet his only involvement in Portugal's five goals is an assist for the third against Turkey.

Although his club career numbers have shot back up since moving to Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo famously struggled to make an impact at his last international tournament - the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He didn't complete 90 minutes in any of Portugal's games and was even dropped to the bench for the knockout rounds.
