River Plate are pushing to sign Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa, with the Nerazzurri wanting a transfer fee.

This according to Italian outlet Gazzetta.it. The Gazzetta report that the Argentine club are hoping that Correa’s contract situation means they can sign him on a free transfer.

Correa is one player who Inter will want to offload this summer without any question.

The 29-year-old former Lazio and Sevilla forward does not have any place in the Nerazzurri’s first team plans for next season.

That much is certain after Correa endured a torrid loan spell at Marseille last season.

Inter sent Correa out on loan to the Ligue 1 club towards the end of last summer transfer window. In the meantime, Alexis Sanchez came the other way.

And there was a purchase option for Marseille to make Correa’s loan move a permanent dale.

This would have become a mandatory obligation had the French side qualified for next season’s Champions League. However, they failed to do so.

And given that Correa failed to score or assist a goal for the French team last campaign, it is certainly not surprising that they declined to sign the Argentina on a permanent basis.

Now that Correa is back at Inter, the Nerazzurri are left in the same position they were in last summer. They are looking for a new club for the Argentine international.

However, one thing has changed. Correa is now one year closer to the end of his contract with the Nerazzurri.

Inter sign Correa from Lazio in the summer of 2021.

At the time, the former Sampdoria man put pen to paper on a four-year contract. That is the deal that he is currently on.

As such, Correa’s contract expires at the end of next June.

It is for this reason that Marseille are hoping that they can sign Correa for either no transfer fee, or a small one.

Inter would at the very least be able to get Correa’s wages off of their books in that manner.

However, the Gazzetta report, Inter are still not keen to allow Correa to leave without a fee.

They are still hoping to recoup a certain amount for the Argentine’s departure.
