Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand’s son has signed his first professional contract with Brighton and Hove Albion.
The English centre back joined United back in 2002 from Leeds United.
Ferdinand went on to play 455 times for the club and scored eight goals.
He enjoyed an incredibly successful time at Old Trafford, winning a plethora of trophies including six league titles and a Champions League in 2008.
The centre back left the club in 2014 and played for Queens Park Rangers for a season before retiring the year after.
The United legend’s son has also gone down the professional football route and signed his first contract.
TalkSPORT report that “Rio Ferdinand’s oldest son, Lorenz, has signed his first professional contract with Brighton.”
He has been part of the youth team since 2022 and has represented the club at under 18 and 21 level.
The 19-year-old spent part of last season at Havant and Waterlooville on a work experience loan.
Ferdinand has played 20 games in the under 18 Premier League and he has also played in the FA Youth Cup for the Seagulls.
His father posted a photo of the moment on Instagram and wrote, “very proud moment for the family, Lorenz signing his first professional contract. We are all so proud of you.”
Wayne Rooney’s son Kai Rooney recently scored for United in the SuperCupNI and Michael Carrick’s son, Jacey, was also part of the team.
Darren Fletcher, who is currently the club’s under 18 coach, also has his two children Tyler and Jack Fletcher impressing in the academy.
