Teenage defender Alex Perez has decided to join Inter Milan because he does not believe that he has a clear path into the Real Betis first team.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Inter have been working to try and sign Perez for a few weeks now.

The Spaniard is only eighteen years of age, and has yet to make a senior appearance for Betis.

However, Inter have marked Perez out as a player for the future.

The Nerazzurri’s plan would be to have Perez play for their Primavera or Under-19 side initially. Then, there would be a pathway into the first team over the coming few years.

Naturally, time would be on Perez’s side in this sense.

Inter’s plan has been to sign Perez on an initial season-long loan deal, effectively trialling him in their youth team setup. Then there would be a purchase option to make the loan deal permanent.

Why Real Betis Defender Alex Perez Accepted Inter Offer

Inter have secured an agreement with Real Betis on a deal for Perez.

It will be an initial paid loan deal containing a purchase option. Betis will also receive a percentage of future resale if Inter are to sell Perez.

The Spaniard will undergo his medicals on the move this week.

And just as important as the agreement with Betis has been Inter convincing Perez.

The Nerazzurri worked to convince the 18-year-old that their project is the right one for him.

According to Tuttosport, a big part of the reason for Perez’s decision not to stay at Betis is that he feels that there is too much competition in terms of young centre-backs.

All of Nobel Mendy, Elyaz Zidane, Keimer Sandoval, and Antonio Salguero, among others, are promising teenage defenders in Betis’s youth team setup.

Therefore, Perez feels that it would be hard to break out from the crowd if he stays where he is.
