The strategy of Oaktree Capital has given a different direction to Inter Milan’s plans for the January transfer window.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908.
The January transfer window is now wide open.
For teams in Serie A, that means a chance to reinforce squads for the second half of the season, with a packed fixture list.
However, it looks as though Inter will avoid the temptation to do so.
It is not as though Inter have not made January signings in the past few years. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Robin Gosens, and Tajon Buchanan have all arrived in January.
Inter’s business in January has tended to be more opportunistic than anything, though.
And that is not really reflective of the strategy that Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital want to utilize.
Oaktree want to make targeted investments in younger players.
Therefore, the summer window suits the aim of making deals with more of a long-term aim better.
Even in defense, where some injuries have left Inter’s squad looking a bit thin recently, Oaktree do not have any intention of signing a veteran option who’s available.
The priority, more than ever, is to lay out a plan for the squad based around young players. Spending in the summer is the route that Oaktree see to doing that.
