There are only a few days left in the winter transfer window, and thus, clubs like FC Barcelona will have to fast-track their efforts if they are to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season.

The Catalans are currently looking to bring in an offensive reinforcement for Hansi Flick, and for this purpose, the player who has been linked the most closely to the Blaugrana club is Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

However, despite their return to the 1:1 rule, Barcelona still need to generate some space on their wage bill to be able to afford the English winger.

SPORT has provided some details of the financial barriers that the Blaugranes will have to overcome to incorporate Rashford even on a loan this January.

Their report claims that Barcelona can offer only €6 million in wages for the Englishman, and thus Manchester United and the player himself will have to make efforts to make this potential move a reality.

Currently, the forward is earning around €18 million net per year, so for the second half of the year, the Catalans will have to pay him around €9 million net, which can end up costing the club €17 million. But as things stand, they are only willing to contribute €3 million to his salary.

The difference will have to be made up by Manchester United, if they take up a part of his salary, and the player himself, who will have to reduce his wages. Rashford has already let Barcelona know his willingness to decrease his wages through his agent.

Ansu Fati’s departure can help the Blaugranes release the required €6 million before the end of this transfer window, but even that will not be enough. Thus, eyes are focused on two center-backs, with Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen the two likely players to leave in January, even though Flick is not too keen to part ways with the Spaniard.
