Dean Huijsen on Verge of Real Madrid Move Amidst Premier League Interest

Madrid talks enter key phase as Bournemouth defender edges closer to Bernabéu

Discussions between Real Madrid and Dean Huijsen’s representatives have accelerated this week, with sources indicating the Spanish club are now firmly in pole position to sign the Bournemouth centre-back. Talks are expected to continue in Madrid on Thursday, as the 20-year-old edges closer to what would be a landmark move to the Santiago Bernabéu.

The deal is at an advanced stage, according to Sky Sports, with Real Madrid making direct contact with Bournemouth on Wednesday. The Spanish giants are believed to be keen to finalise the signing in time for Huijsen to feature in this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup — a clear signal of their long-term vision for the player.

Negotiations over personal terms are also ongoing, with optimism high on all sides that an agreement can be reached.

Race to sign Huijsen intensifies

While Madrid lead the way, several Premier League clubs remain in contention. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among those who have requested to be kept informed of Huijsen’s situation. All three sides are reportedly prepared to meet the £50 million release clause embedded in his Bournemouth contract.

However, the sense from those close to the deal is that Huijsen has set his sights on Madrid. As one source put it, “The fact that Madrid have made contact would suggest Huijsen has made up his mind about his move this summer.”

Chelsea, in particular, maintain strong links with the player’s representatives — who also manage targets such as Marc Guehi, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jorrel Hato — but will need to move decisively if they wish to rival Madrid’s offer. Hato, currently at Ajax, has also attracted serious consideration from the Blues, as previously reported by Sky Sports News.

It is understood that at least five Premier League sides have spoken to Huijsen’s camp in recent months, while clubs in LaLiga and the Bundesliga have also made approaches.

Bournemouth’s bargain to blockbuster rise

Huijsen’s swift rise has stunned many in English football. Signed from Juventus for just £12 million last summer, the Dutch-born Spain international has become one of the Premier League’s most sought-after young defenders in less than a year.

He made only a single senior appearance for Juventus and featured 13 times on loan at Roma in 2023/24. But Bournemouth saw beyond the stats. They invested in potential — and it has paid off handsomely.

“Bournemouth clearly saw something that others didn’t. They had belief, a plan,” observed Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam. “And Huijsen is oozing quality.”

With clubs queuing up to activate the £50m clause, Bournemouth’s scouting success looks more remarkable by the day.

What makes Huijsen a perfect fit for Real Madrid

Statistically, Huijsen has been one of the Premier League’s standout defenders this season. His anticipation, composure, and range of passing have made him central to Bournemouth’s vertical, high-energy approach under Andoni Iraola.

Huijsen’s reading of the game and interception rate place him alongside elite-level defenders such as William Saliba. He ranks among the division’s best for clearances, while his long passing has become a key outlet in transitioning Bournemouth from defence to attack.

Still just 20, his maturity has been shaped by time spent in top environments — notably Juventus and under José Mourinho at Roma.

Speaking on his future, Huijsen remained relaxed:

“I’m very calm. I don’t really focus on it, now is not the time. I’m just focused on finishing the season well. “My dad is my agent, he fixes everything, I don’t read anything, I don’t think about it too much, I’m just focusing on my football and working hard.” “I’m just focused on making history at this club,” he added, smiling.

For Real Madrid, this is more than a short-term acquisition. It is a move with a decade-long horizon in mind — and another signal that Europe’s most decorated club are investing wisely in the next generation of defensive leaders.
