Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Anthony Gordon has re-emerged, and thanks to a revealing report by DaveOCKOP, we now know that contact between the Reds and Gordon’s representatives has never truly gone cold. The Newcastle winger – once a controversial figure due to his Everton past – remains very much on Liverpool’s radar, and his potential arrival could hinge on one of Liverpool’s current forwards leaving Anfield this summer.
Last summer’s surprise links between Liverpool and Gordon caused ripples throughout the fanbase. Talks advanced quickly, with Newcastle desperate to raise funds before the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline. So keen were Newcastle to solve their financial headaches, players like Joe Gomez or Jarell Quansah were even mentioned in possible swap discussions.
However, the Magpies found another way to balance the books. Instead of cashing in on Gordon, they moved Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35 million and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton for £30 million. That decision kept Gordon at St James’ Park – for now.
One of the more intriguing aspects of this story, as reported by DaveOCKOP, was Gordon’s apparent emotional investment in a move to Anfield. “His head had been turned” and he was “openly sharing his excitement” with England teammates during Euro 2024, indicating a personal desire that went beyond business.
The emotional bond is further strengthened by his friendship with Curtis Jones. The two shared formative years in England’s youth ranks, and Jones even ‘liked’ a social media post linking Gordon with Liverpool – a small gesture that speaks volumes in the modern game.
With uncertainties surrounding the futures of Federico Chiesa, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz, Liverpool are clearly preparing for possible change in their attacking line-up. Should one of those players depart, Gordon is poised as a top target.
However, signing him won’t be straightforward. Gordon’s contract with Newcastle runs until 2029, and the club’s firm stance on keeping top talents – such as Alexander Isak – suggests negotiations will be tough. Arsenal’s interest only adds further competition for his signature.
Since arriving from Everton in January 2023 for £45 million, Gordon has produced a strong return: 22 goals and 23 assists in 105 appearances. He has matured into one of the most productive English wingers in the Premier League.
Interestingly, DaveOCKOP also reminds us of Liverpool’s continuing interest in centre-back Marc Guehi, who shares the same representatives as Gordon. If Quansah leaves – with clubs like Bayer Leverkusen reportedly circling – Guehi could become a prime target to fill the void.

From a Liverpool supporter’s standpoint, the Gordon link is fascinating and complex. On one hand, there’s understandable scepticism about a former Everton player joining the Reds. But that wariness is outweighed by what Gordon offers: blistering pace, tenacity, creativity, and proven Premier League productivity.
His connection with Curtis Jones is more than just a social media tidbit – it adds a layer of camaraderie that could help Gordon settle quickly at Anfield. That’s important when you’re talking about integrating a player into a team under a new manager like Arne Slot.
The potential departures of Diaz or Nunez will certainly be divisive, but Gordon – still only 24 – offers a high ceiling for development and the kind of tactical versatility that Slot would relish. He can play off either wing, press relentlessly, and has shown signs of becoming more clinical.
If Liverpool are truly serious about Gordon, they’ll need to act decisively. Newcastle’s stance will be firm, and Arsenal’s interest could drive the price up. But for many fans, this is a transfer that feels more possible now than it did 12 months ago – and one that could prove decisive for Liverpool’s evolving frontline.
