Brendan Rodgers and the majority of the Celtic first team have returned to Lennoxtown as preparations for the new season begin. The Irishman goes into his second pre-season of his second spell in charge with the League and Scottish Cup secured back in May. However, the manager will be looking to build on the success of the first campaign next season.

According to a report from Football Scotland, Celtic are looking to strengthen in a number of key areas.

The Scottish Champions are reportedly eyeing a new central defender to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers with Dara O’Shea linked. It appears that the manager sees Liam Scales as a steady, reliable option but not someone that can help Celtic make inroads in Europe.

One of the most publicised positions is that of goalkeeper, which is a fairly large void to fill after Joe Hart retired. A number of players have been linked but nothing concrete has emerged despite John Kennedy suggesting that talks were underway.

Celtic will look to bring another striker into the club, whether that is only Adam Idah from Norwich or if the manager wants two remains to be seen. The Irish striker has made it clear that he wants to come back to Celtic – without ever saying it.

Brendan wanted a left back in January to compete with Greg Taylor but no deal was forthcoming and the Scotland International was left as the only left back after Bernabei was allowed to leave on loan in March.

Midfield is another area identified by the report but it appears that the club are keen to activate the clause to bring Paulo Bernardo to the club on a permanent basis. Negotiations had been progressing but there hasn’t been an update on this for a few weeks.
