According to Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth, Manchester United are bracing for a formal bid from Chelsea for 20-year-old winger Alejandro Garnacho. United reportedly value the Argentine at £50 million, but Chelsea believe they can get the deal done for significantly less.
It’s a story that could become one of the final-week headlines of the transfer window. Garnacho, who has impressed with his flair and confidence since breaking into the first team, is seen by United as a player with huge potential — and they’re not prepared to sell cheaply.
Head coach Ruben Amorim has made it clear that selling under pressure won’t be an option. “Clubs interested in United’s players should not expect to get a cheap deal if they leave it late in the window,” Amorim warned.
He also underlined the importance of flexibility, saying that players can be “re-integrated if United don’t get a deal that is right for them.” That statement hints at United’s willingness to hold onto Garnacho rather than settle for a lower figure.
Chelsea’s interest aligns with their ongoing strategy of targeting young, high-ceiling talent. Garnacho would fit neatly into their vision for a fast, attack-minded squad. With his ability to beat defenders and contribute in key moments, he could be a valuable asset to the Blues’ evolving project.

However, prising him away from Old Trafford will require more than charm and negotiations — United’s valuation suggests they believe Garnacho can be a cornerstone for years to come.
With the clock ticking in the transfer window, this could develop into a tense negotiation. Chelsea may push to lower the asking price, but United’s stance — and Amorim’s words — suggest they’ll hold out for what they see as full value.
If Chelsea decide to move, it could set up one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas, pitting ambition against resolve in a deal that could shape both clubs’ seasons.
From a Chelsea fan’s perspective, this rumoured pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho feels both exciting and challenging. On one hand, his direct running, technical ability, and fearlessness in attack are exactly the qualities Chelsea have lacked in recent seasons. Garnacho has the flair to unlock tight defences and the temperament to handle high-pressure matches — traits that would make him an instant fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.
However, the reported £50m valuation is a sticking point. Chelsea’s recruitment model has been about finding value in younger players, often before their market price peaks. While Garnacho is clearly talented, the argument from a Blues’ viewpoint might be that his numbers — goals and assists — still have room to grow before matching that fee.
Ultimately, if negotiations can bring the fee closer to Chelsea’s valuation, this could be a transformative signing. If not, supporters might accept that Garnacho will remain a ‘one that got away’.
