Serie A heavyweights AC Milan and Inter Milan are hellbent on staying in the San Siro area amid a joint effort to push forward with their plans.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the long-standing San Siro tenants have no intention of leaving their home.

On the contrary, they are seemingly determined to buy the whole area.

However, Milan and Inter must play a game of patience and wait for the right price.

A crucial meeting took place yesterday.

Indeed, both clubs sent representatives to engage in discussions with Alessandro Giuli, the Minister of Culture.

The Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, was also present at the summit.

Giuseppe Sala, the Mayor of Milan, and Emanuela Carpani, Milan’s Superintendent, led negotiations on behalf of the San Siro clubs.

Oaktree managers Alejandro Cano and Katherine Ralph accompanied Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello.

As for Milan, President Paolo Scaroni and David Castelblanco from RedBird attended the session.

Discussions reportedly centered on building a new stadium at San Siro, redeveloping the surrounding areas, and repurposing Meazza.

Subsequently, both clubs are about to submit an expression of interest to advance the project.

The concept of Populous’ “Cathedral,” which proposed constructing a stadium in the parking lot next to the current venue, fell flat in 2021.

However, it may now be back on the table for reconsideration.

The clubs must acquire the stadium within 70 years of the second tier’s construction, with October 2025 set as the deadline.

Per the report, a new round of talks will likely occur in the first ten days of November.

One estimate places the total cost at €170 million, with €70m allocated for the stadium and €100m for the surrounding area.

But it could take way more than that.

Indeed, Inter and Milan may have to splash out up to €250m to complete the project.
