Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has entered a pivotal stage, with growing signs pointing to a blockbuster summer move. What was once quiet speculation has now become a full-blown transfer saga, especially following the Swedish striker’s noticeable absence from Newcastle United’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Isak’s decision to remain behind to “assess his options” instead of travelling with the squad has only heightened speculation. As DaveOCKOP noted, “the striker had chosen to remain behind to ‘assess his options’ rather than travel with his teammates to Singapore and South Korea.” That choice, combined with reports of Isak training at Real Sociedad’s facilities rather than Newcastle’s Benton base, strongly suggests that the player sees his future away from St. James’ Park.
The most substantial development in this transfer saga came via DaveOCKOP.com, who delivered an exclusive update on Wednesday:“DaveOCKOP.com can exclusively reveal that Liverpool are willing to pay up to £60M up front to Newcastle.”
This initial sum forms part of a wider package that could reach £120 million overall, with a further £20 million in performance-based add-ons. That kind of offer could prove too tempting for Newcastle, especially considering the player’s apparent restlessness and the financial freedom the deal would provide.
Importantly, Real Sociedad would benefit from a sell-on clause, receiving 10% of any fee above €70 million, plus an additional 2% through FIFA’s Solidarity Programme.
Sky Germany reports that Liverpool have already secured personal terms with Isak, with a long-term contract running until 2031 reportedly agreed. The speed of Liverpool’s progress in this deal suggests that the Reds view Isak not just as a replacement for Luis Díaz, who has departed for Bayern Munich, but as a focal point of their attack for years to come.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has hinted that the decision regarding Isak’s sale is no longer solely his: “the final decision on Isak’s future may be ‘out of his full control’.” Such a shift implies that higher-ups at the club are entertaining Liverpool’s offer seriously – a stark contrast to their earlier firm stance that Isak was not for sale.
For Liverpool supporters, this move ticks so many boxes. Alexander Isak has long been admired for his technique, movement, and coolness in front of goal — traits reminiscent of a young Fernando Torres. At 25, he’s hitting his prime, and the potential partnership with the likes of Mo Salah and Florian Wirtz could offer frightening flexibility in Liverpool’s forward line.
A fee of £60M up front — with the total deal rising to £120M — reflects Liverpool’s new-era intent under Arne Slot and Richard Hughes. In past windows, such aggressive financial manoeuvring might have seemed out of character, but the departure of Díaz and an ageing front line call for serious reinvestment.
There will be concerns about spending such a hefty fee on a player with a recent injury history. However, the fact that Liverpool moved early to secure personal terms until 2031 signals both confidence and long-term planning.
Supporters will naturally be excited by the prospect of a high-pedigree, Premier League-proven forward pulling on the red shirt. If Isak signs, it won’t just be a statement of ambition — it’ll be a direct challenge to Manchester City’s domestic dominance and a sign that Liverpool are ready to compete at the highest level once again.
