The future of Julian Alvarez could be finalised in a matter of days rather than weeks, with a number of reliable sources highlighting the latest developments on the striker.

The Manchester City striker is now free to take a break from club and country duties this summer, having recently succumbed to elimination from the Olympic Games with Argentina’s under-23 squad courtesy of a 1-0 France win.

As such, Julian Alvarez is now likely to intensify his own conversations with representatives over the options available to him this summer, as he eyes the role of a consistent lead striker within one of Europe’s premier clubs.

Alvarez remained a key component of Pep Guardiola’s squad last season, but was largely used as an attacking midfielder, before taking a place on the bench during the club’s run-in and during their UEFA Champions League double-header with Real Madrid.

Manchester City have remained of the stance that they will allow Alvarez to leave the club should they receive a suitable offer, while Pep Guardiola has insisted that the organisation has not thought about replacements as they await a firm decision from the 24-year-old.

However, this weekend has seen a clear intensifying of negotiations and discussions around the striker’s future, and City Xtra are on hand to provide you with comprehensive coverage of the latest reliable information around the player concerning each interested club.

Atletico Madrid

According to the information of TyC Sports’ Gastón Edul, La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have now ‘advanced’ for Julian Alvarez and are set to present a formal offer to Manchester City for the striker that will be around €60 million.

MailSport’s Jack Gaughan has confirmed that Atletico Madrid have now started negotiations with Manchester City to sign Alvarez.

According to Sam Lee and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, discussions with Atletico Madrid over Julian Alvarez are centred around €55 million plus bonuses, bringing the total to €70 million. City however, are asking for £70 million plus £20 million, while Atletico are pessimistic about reaching an agreement under these conditions.

But what could Atletico Madrid’s recently-confirmed signing of Alexander Sorloth mean in regards to their interest in Julian Alvarez?

The Athletic point out that they remain keen on recruiting Manchester City’s Argentine World Cup Winner in addition to their latest acquisition and Norway international.

Paris Saint-Germain

TyC Sports’ Gastón Edul has further reported on Saturday that PSG have already made their own formal offer to City for Julian Alvarez, in a proposal that is being described as ‘superior’ to that of Atlético Madrid’s; both for the Premier League champions, and for the player.

FootMercato’s Santi Aouna has claimed that PSG have made a contract offer to Alvarez, and have also started discussions with Manchester City themselves in order to find out the feasibility of a deal. This report states City are asking for around €70 million and €80 million.

Arsenal

According to the information of the Mirror’s Simon Mullock, Arsenal are monitoring Julian Alvarez’s situation at Manchester City this summer, however a deal involving the Gunners remains unlikely at this stage due to finances.

The report once again points out that the Premier League champions are holding demands of around £80 million, including add-ons, for the striker and as such a fee would be ‘too rich’ for the North London club.

Chelsea

Despite conversations earlier on in the summer transfer window, amid first reports of an interest in a Manchester City exit from Julian Alvarez, TyC Sports’ Gastón Edul has clarified that there is ‘nothing’ from Chelsea.

Julian Alvarez

On the subject of Julian Alvarez directly, TyC Sports’ Gastón Edul has clarified that despite the growing movement from clubs across Europe, the player’s future at Manchester City remains ‘unresolved’, but an exit from the Etihad Stadium is ‘increasingly feasible’.

Such is the nature of the ongoing talks, and the desire from the player’s side to seek a new opportunity, Gastón Edul reports that it is ‘very likely’ that Julian Alvarez will change clubs during the ongoing summer market, and that a deal ‘will end up happening’.

Additionally, Edul has detailed that Atletico Madrid have the advantage in the race for Julian Alvarez in terms of a new home, with the Spanish capital being favoured by the Manchester City striker. However, PSG’s contractual offer is said to be ‘considerably higher’.
