Tijjani Reijnders has admitted that AC Milan wanted to win the league title this season, and he gave his thoughts on Joshua Zirkzee amid the concrete transfer links.

Tonight is the 29th edition of the Premio Gentleman, also known as the Gentleman Fair Play Awards, and it is being held at the Teuliè Military School in Milan. It is being hosted by Massimo Caputi in the company of Laura Barriales and Giorgia Rossi.

Reijnders is there having been nominated for an award, something that demonstrated just how quickly he has adapted to life in Italy following his arrival from AZ Alkmaar last summer.

After the club-record sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United, one of the tasks that the Milan management had last summer was to rebuild the midfield and Reijnders was among the names who arrived.

The midfielder spoke to reporters upon his arrival at the event on the red carpet, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“A great honor to be nominated, I come from a small Dutch club and now I’m here.”

What do you think of your first season at Milan?

“We are not satisfied, our goal was to win the Scudetto, it didn’t happen. As for me, it’s just a matter of adapting to Italian football, improving myself and taking bigger steps next season.”

What must Milan do to reduce the gap to Inter?

“I think this season there were a lot of new players, we had to get to know each other. Next season there will be a big difference.”

Joshua Zirkzee was not called up for the European Championship…

“He was injured recently, I think this is the reason for the decision. He is doing very well, he is a good footballer and a nice person, I hope that next time he will be called up.”

This season you have often played as a defensive midfielder…

“I am a player who can play in all midfield roles. This year I have become a total midfielder even having to play further back. For my improvement, it has been very useful.”
