A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has confirmed that Real Madrid will not have any influence in shaping the future refereeing model in Spanish football.

Real Madrid have been calling for reforms in the refereeing system in the country, with their frustrations with match officials growing particularly stronger in recent weeks after some dubious decisions in games against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Osasuna.

However, Los Blancos will have no part in helping formulate the future of the refereeing system in the league.

This is because the club is not among those selected for the refereeing committee, which will be responsible for discussions with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regarding the structure and management of referees going forward.

The outlet mentions that La Liga officially informed clubs about the newly formed committees on Wednesday.

These committees were established after a meeting on 6 February, attended by representatives from 41 clubs within the association, excluding Real Madrid, along with officials from the RFEF and the Technical Committee of Referees.

Details of the committee

Two committees have been set up within La Liga. One will specifically focus on refereeing matters, while the other will handle competition-related issues.

Each committee consists of two clubs from La Liga’s top division and two from the Segunda Division. The selection process was conducted in secret, and the final list was only made public recently.

Reports indicate that Real Madrid were not included in the four-club refereeing committee. This committee will engage with the RFEF to evaluate and potentially redesign the refereeing model for Spanish football.

Discussions have been ongoing regarding a system similar to those used in the Premier League or Bundesliga, where a joint entity comprising league officials, the football federation, and referees oversees officiating matters.

Which clubs have been chosen?

Sevilla and Real Betis were the two clubs chosen from the top division to participate in the refereeing committee, while Albacete and Granada were selected from the Segunda Division.

Real Madrid had expressed their interest in joining but managed to secure only four votes, falling short of inclusion.

While these four clubs will not have the authority to make final decisions within the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), they will be involved in evaluating different refereeing models and proposing improvements.
