Europa League offers United one final chance to win silverware this season
Manchester United are in desperate need of a positive result as they make the trip to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
Ruben Amorim’s side are in Spain for the first leg of this last-16 tie on Thursday night and know this competition is their last hope of salvaging some positivity from an otherwise miserable season.
United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham on Sunday to continue their stumbling run under Amorim.
They did at least earn a bye straight through to the last-16 of the Europa League, whereas Real Sociedad had to come through an extra knockout tie against FC Midtjylland.
Real Sociedad vs Man United is scheduled for a 5.45pm GMT kick-off on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
The match will take place at the Reale Arena in San Sebastian.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports.
Live stream: Fans can catch the contest live online via the Discovery+ app and website.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport’s live blog.
Martin Zubimendi came off against Barcelona with a hamstring injury over the weekend, but he has since participated in training and is expected to be fit to start.
Jon Pacheco and Arsen Zakharyan remain injured, but Jon Aramburu is available again after suspension.
United are expected to be without Manuel Ugarte and Harry Maguire, after both missed training on Wednesday with minor injuries picked up in the FA Cup against Fulham.
Chido Obi is ineligible having not been registered in the club’s Europa League squad, while the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw all remain out.

Unconvincing wins over Ipswich and Leicester is as good as it has got for United over the past month.
Real Sociedad have not been at their best this season, but were only narrowly beaten by Real Madrid last month. Goals have been a problem, with only 23 scores in 26 La Liga matches.
With United struggling in attack themselves, it is unlikely to be an goal-fest in Spain.
