Pachuca forward Salomon Rondon has had an illustrious career spanning multiple countries and leagues. The Venezuelan striker has tasted success in Russia, Argentina, and Mexico while also making an impact in England among other nations.

Over the past couple of years, Rondon has played a crucial role in Pachuca’s journey to the Intercontinental Cup final, proving his worth as a key player for the team.

Notably, he scored an impressive nine goals in seven matches during the Concachampions and capped it off with a decisive performance against Botafogo, securing a 3-0 victory in the final.

As Pachuca prepares for their highly anticipated clash against Real Madrid, the 35-year-old forward shared his thoughts on the upcoming encounter, emphasising the significance of the challenge.

Real Madrid, with its storied history and reputation as one of the most successful clubs in football, poses a formidable challenge.

While some might critique Madrid’s current form, Rondon recognises their inherent quality and the depth of talent across their squad. He stresses the importance of Pachuca playing a flawless match to compete effectively against the European giants.

“There are people who are not happy with the results they are getting, but it is Madrid, a team that has class, history behind it and many titles in its history.

“Football can sometimes surprise, we will compete in the final. We have to play a complete and perfect match,” he told AS.

Rondon also reflected on the potential battles he might face on the pitch, including a likely contest with Madrid’s powerhouse defender, Antonio Rudiger.

Having faced Rudiger during his time in England, Rondon understands the German defender’s physical and disruptive playing style.

“I have faced him a couple of times in England. I know he is quite annoying and likes to bother the forwards. It is his way of playing and he is respected.

“I know what tricks Rudiger is up to and I won’t pay any attention to them.”

Beyond Rudiger, Rondon is also prepared to deal with the challenge posed by Thibaut Courtois, one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

“I have also faced him. But all the Real Madrid players are of a very high level,” he said.

Drawing from his extensive experience against top defenders and goalkeepers like Virgil van Dijk and Yerry Mina, Rondon embraces these encounters as opportunities to test his skills and enjoy the game.

“I have faced all kinds of defenders, Van Dijk and Yerry Mina in the national team, who is also quite a pain.

“They are centre-backs, their job is to make you lose control and lose focus, but at this stage of my career I will enjoy it like a child,” he noted.

When asked about Madrid’s players, Rondon highlighted the collective strength of the squad rather than focusing on individuals.

“In all of them, everyone is equally important. It’s a question of thinking more about ourselves than about the opponent.”

He believes the outcome of the match will depend largely on Pachuca’s approach and mindset.

“Without taking away from Madrid’s merits, it will depend on how we approach the match. We have to treat them as equals.”

For Rondon, success lies in treating Madrid as equals and focusing on their own performance rather than being overly concerned with their opponents’ star power.
