Two matches into Xabi Alonso’s tenure at Real Madrid, Gonzalo Garcia has emerged as one of the positives for the club.
The 21-year-old academy graduate enjoyed a productive campaign with Castilla, scoring 25 goals and has carried that form forward at the FIFA Club World Cup.
So far, Gonzalo has scored and assisted one goal apiece in his two appearances, making the most of his opportunities in light of Kylian Mbappe’s absence.
It must be noted that prior to the FIFA Club World Cup, it was expected that Garcia will be leaving Real Madrid this summer in order to get more playing time.
However, according to The Athletic, following his breakthrough, the Real Madrid youngster is now prioritising staying and succeeding at the club.

Garcia is attracting interest from clubs in Spain and England, and his performances at the Club World Cup could see him add more admirers.
But the 21-year-old centre-forward plans to stay and succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu instead of securing a summer departure.
Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso had been looking to add a proper centre-forward to his ranks this summer but Garcia, through his performances, has shown that he can fulfil that role.
What now remains to be seen is whether the youngster’s situation changes and he stays at the Spanish capital club or ends up departing as was expected before the tournament in the USA.
What appears certain is that Garcia will start in a third consecutive game when Real Madrid face RB Salzburg this week, considering Mbappe is still not fully fit.
