Real Madrid are gearing up for an important summer ahead. While the potential signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold is sure to grab all the headlines, it will also be important to see how the club fare when it comes to signing a central defender.
With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba currently in the final phase of their respective career, it becomes paramount for Real Madrid to start thinking about their defensive core.
A recent report from AS has offered some perspective on Real Madrid’s squad building, especially when it comes to the defensive department.
The report suggests Real Madrid want to base their future defensive core around three players in the form of Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and Raul Asencio.
Militao has already been a crucial part of Real Madrid’s current defensive core that features him, Alaba and Rudiger. Aged just 27, Real Madrid believe the Brazilian international can become a bigger leader in the years to come.
Militao is currently nursing an injury, but he has been recovering well and could soon return to action.

As for Raul Asencio, he has been the rising star at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, stepping up to the plate following the injury of Militao.
As per the report, Real Madrid have firm faith in Asencio’s abilities and want him to become an integral part of the defensive core in the years to come.
The final piece of the jigsaw is Huijsen, who has emerged as one of Real Madrid’s top defensive targets following his breakthrough at Bournemouth and a subsequent debut for the Spanish national team.
Real Madrid believe Huijsen has what it takes to become a key player at the club, even more so considering the fact that the youngster is reportedly a huge fan of the club.
In essence, Real Madrid want Militao, Huijsen and Asencio to form the core of the defence in the years to come. As for the future of Rudiger and Alaba, a decision will be made soon enough.
