Carlo Ancelotti’s side did move top of the La Liga table at the weekend. A 4-1 win over Las Palmas, coupled with Atletico Madrid’s shock defeat at Leganes, saw the champions move to the summit.

Los Blancos will start as strong favourites against a Salzburg side struggling this season. The Austrians are fifth in the table domestically and have lost five of their six European games.

Carlo Ancelotti looks set to ask Federico Valverde to deputise at right-back this evening, with Lucas Vasquez suspended. That ban and Dani Carvajal’s season-ending ACL injury has left the Spaniards short of cover.

Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric are back after domestic suspensions at the weekend and should return to the side.

Eduardo Camavinga is a major doubt, though David Alaba made his long-awaited return as a substitute against Las Palmas. The centre-back has missed more than a year with an ACL injury.
