Thibaut Courtois has once again confirmed his love and loyalty to Real Madrid.
Speaking ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup clash against Pachuca, the veteran goalkeeper, now 33, made it clear that he wants to stay at the club for many more years and ideally retire as a Madrid player.
“It’s a dream to play here”, Courtois told reporters.
“I’m very happy at Real Madrid. It’s always been a dream to play here, and the more years I can spend at this club, the better. I’m totally willing. Everyone knows I want to stay and hopefully retire here.”
With his eighth season at Real Madrid just around the corner, Courtois knows that staying competitive is key.
“I have to keep proving myself on the pitch and helping the team. The rest will take care of itself.”
Real Madrid are currently competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, having drawn their opening match 1-1.
The next test comes against Mexican side Pachuca. Courtois admitted that adapting to new coach Xabi Alonso’s ideas takes time, but progress is being made.
“We’ve only been working with Xabi for a week,” said Courtois.

“We’re adapting more and more each day. He’s very clear in what he wants from us. Of course, these things take time.
“It is all about trial and error. But now we’re in a tournament, and we have to give everything to win.”
According to the latest reports, Courtois is expected to extend his contract with Real Madrid. The formalities are likely to be completed after the conclusion of the Club World Cup.
With the Belgian still performing at a high level, Real Madrid see him as a vital part of their plans both short-term and long-term.
Courtois’ presence between the posts remains a key strength for Los Blancos, and his desire to finish his career at the club only strengthens the bond between player and fans.
