A leading member of the summer transfer wishlist at La Liga giants Real Madrid may well have played his very last game for his current employers.
That’s according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, who point towards Álvaro Carreras as the player in question.
Defender Carreras of course took his place front and centre in the headlines across Spain several weeks ago.
This came after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old had been identified as Real Madrid’s no.1 left-back target for next season.
Los Blancos had been expected to tie up a deal for Carreras by now, but have thus far been left frustrated by a stubborn Benfica board.
If the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, though, then the transfer, when all is said and done, is expected to come to fruition.
As per a report from A Bola:
‘Álvaro Carreras may have played for the last time for Benfica on Saturday, against Auckland City. The deal with Real Madrid has not yet been finalised, but information gathered by A BOLA indicates that the full-back will head to Spain.’
Carreras has for his part been ruled out of Benfica’s third and final group stage outing at the Club World Cup, owing to suspension.
