Real Madrid could witness a major surprise in their line-up tonight when they face Oviedo.

According to AS, summer signing Franco Mastantuono is in contention to start, possibly taking the place of Brahim Diaz on the right wing.

Xabi Alonso has already built a clear structure for his preferred starting XI, which featured against Osasuna in the league opener. However, there remains a slight uncertainty regarding the right flank.

Brahim was handed the role against Osasuna but failed to make much of an impact, opening the door for Mastantuono to step in.

The Argentine teenager, who only recently turned 18, could be about to make his first big mark at the club.

Alonso impressed by his adaptation

Despite only joining the squad earlier this month, Mastantuono has wasted no time in impressing the coaching staff.

Alonso, who has been closely observing his progress, rewarded him with half an hour of action against Osasuna.

That decision came at the expense of Rodrygo, who did not feature in the game, showing just how much faith Alonso already has in the youngster.

Meanwhile, speaking about the Argentine, Alonso highlighted how quickly he has adapted to life at Real Madrid.

“He’s looking good, he is fitting in well with his teammates, and it feels like he has been here longer than he actually has,” the coach said.

Though Alonso avoided giving away his starting XI, it is clear that Mastantuono has already forced his way into the manager’s thinking.

A big opportunity for Mastantuono

For Mastantuono, this could be the defining moment of his early career. At just 18 years old, earning a place in the Real Madrid starting eleven would be a massive statement.

With Brahim struggling to deliver consistent performances, tonight’s clash could provide the teenager with a golden opportunity to showcase his talent.

If selected, the Argentine will not only have the chance to prove himself but also to win over the Bernabeu faithful, who are always eager to see young talents rise to the occasion.
