Real Madrid youngster Raúl Asencio is in line for an uptick in game-time over the weeks to come.

That’s according to Real insider Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, who has on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.

The name of defender Asencio of course emerged as a prominent one in the post-match chatter once more this past weekend.

As much came after the Spanish starlet, who has shone so brightly across his senior appearances for Real Madrid to date, was left on the bench yet again in the Supercopa finale.

En route to an eventual 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Barcelona, the 21-year-old was introduced only as a 2nd-half substitute.

Aurélien Tchouaméni, instead, was depended upon once more in an unnatural position at the heart of defence.

Many were quick to question this call on the part of Carlo Ancelotti, with Tchouaméni and Lucas Vázquez having both been badly exposed on the defensive side of the ball over the course of the 90 minutes.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a source of relief for those of a Blancos persuasion to learn that Asencio is being lined up for an imminent jump in playing time.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Academy graduate Raul Asencio is expected to gain more prominence in the coming weeks. His performances are now expected to be rewarded.’
