Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, as he is set to return to a secondary role with Thibaut Courtois back to full fitness. There has been little movement over the last couple of months in that regard though.

Los Blancos had wrapped up a long-term contract extension with Lunin before the end of the season, but when it came to sign said deal, Real Madrid were met with radio silence. It has been reported that Real Madrid would be willing to part with him for around €20-25m, but no offers have been forthcoming.

He is not the only goalkeeper to be left without an obvious destination, but with Jorge Mendes as agent, it has surprised some that Lunin has not had any offers. Sport now report that part of the reason is that Lunin has decided to run down his contract, which will expire that summer.

That will allow Lunin to seek his future freely from January onwards, and likely receive a significant salary hike as a free agent. The 25-year-old was highly impressive during Real Madrid’s campaign last year, but has slim chances of beating out Courtois to the number one spot. He was however dropped by Ukraine at Euro 2024 after an error, which will no doubt have hurt his value.
